Every moment matters.

Our child-centered approach to learning promotes self-discovery and fosters interactive and hands-on learning.

Childcare Center

The childcare program

Our programming is based on each child’s developmental needs. Our one-room learning center is organized with learning stations for children at different levels of development, but also allows the children freedom of movement, creativity, and play.

One focus of our play-based learning program is socialization, which includes daily supervised activities with the Grandmas and Grandpas from our adult day program.

Each week, a different theme is explored through:

  • Age-appropriate games
  • Crafts
  • Hands-on learning
  • Reading
  • Educational activities

Special events and parties are planned throughout the year and linked to certain holidays or weekly themes.

Nurturing Development

Nurturing development

Intergenerational activities, in which the children of our childcare join the “grandmas and grandpas” of our adult day program, occur daily.  Activities include art, dancing, reading, exercise, gardening, cooking. While most children enjoy these activities, their participation in intergenerational activities is voluntary.

The Bookmobile, a mobile library service, visits the center for one hour every two weeks and provides children with access to a number of resources.

Breakfast, lunch, and a snack are provided daily.  We accommodate various dietary restrictions.

For an additional fee, Hearts & Minds Activity Center’s staff will provide potty-training.

In preparation for kindergarten, additional activities and tasks are added and tailored to each child’s academic and social needs in order to improve the child’s self-esteem and increase their sense of responsibility, focus, and imagination.

How to get started

Step 1
STEP 1

Contact Rosa Barneond via the form to the right to schedule a thirty-minute tour of our childcare center. We do not offer drop-in tours.

Step 2
STEP 2

After the tour, an application may be given to the prospective parents. Once you submit your application, it will be reviewed, and you will receive a response in one to two business days.

Step 3
STEP 3

Once your application has been approved, schedule two free “play visits” prior to the child’s start date, each of which will be one-hour in length.

Any child two years old through entry-level first grade is welcome, including those who are not potty trained.

Each child must attend at least three set days per week. There is no minimum hours requirement. While we do allow parents to switch their child’s days of attendance, please contact the center in advance to find out if there is availability on the requested day(s). Additional days may be added as needed. Please contact the center at least twenty-four hours in advance for availability.

Call us at (408) 279-7515 for more information regarding rates and to see if you qualify for any of our funding sources.
