This webinar will cover the following topics: 

1. Changing Resistance to Care to Participation in Care 
This session will instruct learners in effective strategies for helping people with dementia during personal care, reducing resistance to care.  It will enable learners to develop better observational skills to recognize and intervene effectively when behavioral challenges occur. This session will emphasize the value of matching helping behaviors to the persons needs and retained abilities to promote a sense of control and self-direction. Learners will understand that matching caregiver help to the state of the person living with dementia will help to foster positive interactions during care activities rather than struggle and resistance. 

2. Why do they do that? Understanding Symptoms and Situations of Dementia 
This session is designed to help care partners better understand why people living with 
dementia may sometimes say or do things that are unexpected and/or challenging.
It will focus on understanding the many changes that occur in the brain during the progression of the disease. It will also emphasize the role that the reactions and responses of care partners play in interactions with those living with dementia. This session will help learners develop better communication skills when working with people living with dementia by emphasizing the value of empathetic and supportive communication. Overall, it will help learners understand the factors that contribute to interactions in dementia, and learn ways to improve these interactions using effective verbal and physical skills.

3. Matching your Help to the Needs and Abilities of the Person with Dementia 
This session will help learners use effective strategies for helping people with dementia during personal care to reduce resistance to care. It will also focus on helping learners develop better observational skills to recognize and intervene effectively when behavioral challenges occur. This session will emphasize the value of matching helping behaviors to the persons needs and retained abilities to promote a sense of control and self-direction.   Grading and providing helping behaviors based on the persons abilities and needs will assist in fostering positive interactions during care activities rather than struggles.
